St. John Passion, BWV 245
Details
The first large-scale vocal work written by Bach after his appointment as Kantor of St. Thomas in 1723, the St. John Passion premiered in April of the following year in the first cycle of annual works for the Leipzig church that began with the Cantatas. The younger sister of the St. Matthew Passion – strictly in terms of length and number of performers – continues to amaze those who listen to it, despite the passage of time. On this occasion, the work will bear the seal of approval of Vox Luminis (who performed the St. Matthew Passion at the Palau last season), the Freiburger Barockorchester and Lionel Meunier.
