The Vienna 1900 song cycle focuses on an extraordinarily prolific and creative period, bringing forth such original voices as Hugo Wolf, Gustav Mahler, Arnold Schönberg, Alban Berg, and Alexander von Zemlinsky. New aesthetics emerge, and unheard-of expressive registers are explored, still striking today for their audacity. At the same time, the cycle’s programs seek connections to the tradition of Franz Schubert, emphasizing from this perspective the visionary aspect of his Lieder.

It is fitting to find in the song genre a connection to Vienna of 1900, as it allows us to explore the path of music, of course, but also of poetry, a loyal companion in this journey toward modernity.
