Verdict of the IV International Choral Composition Competition of the Orfeó Català
The jury of the IV International Choral Composition Competition of the Orfeó Català, composed of Pablo Larraz, conductor of the Orfeó Català and president of the jury; Buia Reixach i Feixes, conductor of the Cor de Noies de l’Orfeó Català; Montserrat Meneses, assistant conductor of the Orfeó Català and conductor of the Coral Cantiga; Isabel Mantecón, conductor of the Cor de la Diputació de Girona, and composers Marc Timón and Ferran Cruixent, has decided, as of July 13th, to award the following works:
- Maria Font de Carulla Award for the best choral composition for mixed choir:
"Ave Maris Stella" by Jonathan Lane (London, 1958).
- Award for the best choral composition for treble voices (children's choir):
"Il paese dei contenti" by Gerard López Boada (Barcelona, 1969).
The Award for the best choral composition for equal voices (female choirs) and the special mention for the best work based on Catalan text have been left vacant.
A total of 219 composers from 51 different nationalities have participated in the Orfeó Català competition, submitting a total of 362 scores.
