Details
Published in 1958, Catalogue d'oiseaux is Oliver Messiaen's most extensive work after his opera Saint François d'Assise. This landmark of 20th-century piano literature showcases the French composer's masterful integration of his three main compositional elements: rhythm, the sound-color relationship, and birdsongs. The score is a compilation of birdsong transcriptions and descriptive elements of various landscapes, immersing the listener in a rich musical universe.
Gregorio Benítez has been praised by international critics as an artist with a “hypnotic stage presence and an extraordinary palette of keyboard colors”. The pianist will present a selection of the most representative pieces from Catalogue d'oiseaux at the Palau, as part of an extensive tour in which he performs the complete solo piano works of Olivier Messiaen.
