Details
The Rite of Spring overturned the clichés and refuted the romantic concept of what is “beautiful” and emotional. Written for the Ballets Russes, its premiere in 1913 at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris provoked one of the most notorious scandals in the history of music, and the performance didn’t even end.
The Orquestra de la Suisse Romande will be responsible for bringing this work, marked by its striking timbral and rhythmic contrasts, to the stage. Under the baton of Jonathan Nott, its conductor since 2017. In first part of the concert the violinist Midori will perform the Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius.
