Giving voice to anonymous heroines, women of our past
In this series of works being unveiled for the first time at the Palau de la Música Catalana, Adela Beltran revives the memory of real and anonymous women. Women defined by their courage, deeply connected to life, who have dedicated themselves to caring for others before themselves. Beautifully imperfect women who, despite going unnoticed in History, have left an indelible mark on future generations. Beltran seeks to make visible those women who, despite their lasting essence, have been forgotten. Anonymous heroines who invite us to reflect on the concept of the hero, the central theme of the Palau’s 2024-25 season.
The exhibition at the Palau will showcase 13 pieces of her work, where Beltran engages in a dialogue with tradition by using materials that were part of the everyday lives of her subjects, such as bedsheets or fabrics sewn by them. She reclaims these textiles, processes them, and uses them as a canvas to portray a selection of women silenced by History, representing a diverse and significant collective. Beltran aims to capture a moment from their past and imbue it with meaning, adding small details to symbolize their origins and daily lives.
About Adela Beltran
Born in Alcanar (1973), Adela Beltran is an artist and graphic designer who seeks to express femininity and celebrate the strength, character, and resilience of women through pictorial portraits of anonymous women who represent a shared identity. The women depicted by Adela Beltran Sancho evoke an inner fire, a longing for life, and the transcendence of countless women silenced by History.
