Details
The Latin poem Stabat Mater, which evokes the pain of the Virgin Mary during the Passion of Christ, has stimulated composers from the Middle Ages to the 21st century, attracted by an anonymous text –of 13th-century Franciscan origin, attributed to Jacopone da Todi, Pope Innocent III and Saint Bonaventure– long, sombre and full of images. In this concert, the work of the 20th-century Swedish composer Knut Nystedt heads a programme that is completed with one of the Bachian Cello Suites and the premiere of a work for choir and solo cello commissioned from Raquel García-Tomás, a guest composer this season at the Palau de la Música.
