‘Querido Maestro. Correspondencia de Pau Casals (1893-1973)’

Details

Presentation of the new book by the publishing house Acantilado Querido Maestro. Correspondence of Pau Casals (1893-1973), by its authors Anna Mora and Anna Dalmau, musicologists and pedagogues. This correspondence, the first to cover Casals' entire life, is a document of the highest order: through the immense epistolary exchange with his numerous interlocutors -including composers, instrumentalists, poets, politicians and intellectuals-, we discover the musician's personality and the inextricable relationship that existed for him between art and life. A privileged observer of the events that marked the 20th century, these pages not only show the ideas, concerns and beliefs of the great cellist, meticulous teacher, composer and conductor, but also the committed artist who became a symbol of peace throughout the world.

The event will be moderated by Isabel Soler and will feature the musical intervention of cellist Lluís Claret, author of the prologue, who, together with Anna Mora and a representation from Grupcello.cat, will perform a work by Johann Sebastian Bach, the sardana Sant Martí del Canigó by Pau Casals and El cant dels ocells (Catalan popular).
